Tomie dePaola Contest Entry

This is the illustration I submitted for the 2012 Tomie dePaola Contest. The guidelines were to illustrate an excerpt from Chicken Licken, by P.C. Asbjornsen. Chicken Licken and the other animals meet Turkey Lurkey as they travel to tell the king that the sky is falling.

The winner will receive a trip to the 2012 SCBW Winter Conference in New York. Wish me luck!

    • Thank you Angeli! I appreciate this recognition you have honored me with. I’ve been busy working on a new book for a client, so hopefully I’ll have some of the artwork up soon. Best to you and your creative business. Thanks again!

  3. Veronica, I must say, this is by far, my favorite illustration of yours. It has qualities of some of my favorite illustrators…Peter DeSeve, Carter Goodrich, and Edward Sorel. Yet it stands apart from them as well. I feel you stand a pretty good chance …Good Luck!

    • Wow! Thanks so much Chris for your comments. I really like the way this one turned out too. There’s something about watercolor that adds just the right amount of tactile-ness. I’vecommitted myself to do more this year just because I miss it–and it’s why I want to illustrate children’s books in the first place. Thanks for sending your positive vibe. Have a creative and prosperous 2012! Veronica
